Excellent photo album. Here is a link to the Groetken's 50th
wedding anniversary photos. I know there are more wildlife photos
than people photos, but my camera was having a fit during the
reception. YIS, Bruce Arnold Harvey Smithton Gander was born on the same day as I, July 24 and
passed on my wifes birthday, January 4. Interesting! Great website Hi, all. I am Athene. I was married to Steven Groetken who is the
grandson of Jackie Gander Coon Deets. Steve and I had 3 beautiful boys,
Steven, II, Ryan & Jordan. Just an FYI for all. Steven, II, is
stationed in Camp Ridgeway, Iraq, near Fallujah in the 208th
Transportation Company, US Army Reserves. His email is:
steven_groetken@hotmail.com. He would love to receive emails from family
and especially prayers for his safety. He thinks he will be able to come
home in March 2005 after more than a year overseas. I happened upon the
site by doing a search for Steven, for any news info that may have been
published. We are very fortunate that Carol & Robin (daughters of
Jackie) gave the boys a beautiful album with the pics with commentary
included in this site. It is wonderful to have something like this to keep
up with family. Thank you. Hey Dave, Not only did you steal my name, you stole my good looks too!
Have a great holiday season! From the Pfaff's to the Pfaff's. HI

information on my fathers side of the family, my father was born in the
Philippines on oct 14 1920 or 1921. I have never known my greatgrand

CommentsMy Grandfather was Daniel Alexander Gonder. He lived in Mexico, MO in the early 1900's. He married Ellen Anderson. My Mother was Virginia Gonder born in 1919. I have no further information but would appreciate any help. Thanks
CommentsMy name is James Edwin Gander and I believe Samual was my grandfather's grandfather or great grandfather also there was a George before that. My grandfather was Chester Arthur Gander and his father was either Nathan or Nathanial they called him Nate My father was Verlin Gander
CommentsHello you handsome bunch...I may or may not be related to you, as my family name was Gander until 1850 or so. I love looking at old photos, thank you for sharing your precious family heirlooms with me. May I send you a photo of myself? Perhaps our family lines meet somewhere in the distant past, and there will be a resemblance someone will recognize. gandier47@hotmail.com
CommentsI used this information to help with a History family tree, but I found so much more thank you for putting the time and effort into these site it helped me a lot.
CommentsWonderful site. Now, if I could just find where my great-great grandfather and his son, Silas Branch, Sr. (1850 census of Knox Co., says he was b. VA 1802)and his son, Silas Branch, Jr. b. TN. both married in Knox Co., Silas, Sr. possibly for the second time. Anybody ever hear of them???
CommentsNice site. Like the pix. I visited the Phelps cemetery where the big monument is many, many years ago. Has anyone found any relation/connection between the Phelps family of Washington Co. and the Phelps of Russell Co. My ancestor was Samuel Phelps, Sr. (Felps) of Russell Co. He did own land in Washington County in the 1790's and early 1800's. I'm trying to do research on the Samuel Phelps (sometimes spelled Felps)family. My e-mail is lovell@boo.net
CommentsMy greatgrandfather was John Gander, born 1846 in London, England. He emigrated to Toronto, Canada circa 1865-1870. We find him on the census of 1871. Do you know if there is any connection between the families? In looking through your album, I noticed a comment "he of the dark brown eyes". Is this a Gander trait? It is of this branch. We are now Gonder, changed in the early 1900's. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I have just started to trace back further than my great grandfather John. I can be reached at megjane@cyg.net. I am located in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Regards, Meg Gonder
CommentsWhen Joel and I lived in France, we visited Lucern, Switzerland once. I knew that the Gander name had been traced to this region and looked in the phone book for Ganders. I found about 17 listings for Ganders in the Lucern phone book. I'm not used to seeing so many Ganders listed in one place so it was pretty interesting. Now, we have been visited by one of the Ganders from Lucern in this guestbook.
Commentshi there! I was only looking for some homepages containing our familiy name and found gandersbest. interesting to see how you live in america. I wish you all the best and some greetings from switzerland! michael (near from lucerne) (sorry because of my broken english..)
CommentsAlice, thanks for using your hard earned vacation days to research the family history through records and visiting cemeteries. We used to live in Virginia but never realized that we had relatives buried there. Your great photos make the ancestors seem alive. I also loved the documents you shared via email which I was able to print. Thanks so much.
Commentshey Alice, I love the pictures! They are so interesting. I'm really glad you have put this together for our family. Some day my children will be able to appreciate all your hard work. Thanks!
CommentsNow I know where I inherited my love for poetry. I was very touched by the love poems written by our great-grandparents so long ago!
CommentsI loved the old pictures of the family eating watermelon. Although I was not quite two and honestly do not recall when those photos were taken, I do have fond memories of eating watermelon outside on the farm. Our brothers and cousins had contests to see who could spit the seeds the greatest distance. Thank you Aunt Jackie for sharing your treasured photos as I had never seen most of them. And thank you, Alice, for doing such a neat job in posting them to the web.
CommentsThe new web photos from sorghum making days certainly took me down memory lane. Whoever remembers the location of the sorghum production would be astonished to see how the river has cut into that area which was the site of so much activity. Don and Liz have done wonders with the family home and farm but they cannot fight mother nature who is sadly knocking practically at their doorstep. Alice, I am so glad you went to visit the relatives in Tucson ty
CommentsAunt Alice, I have had so much fun staying up late printing out all these family photos! I've learned quite a bit about my ancestors just by reading Aunt Jackie's notes. You've done another exceptional job. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent. Love, Mona Jo Gander
CommentsAlice, Another great place for family to "visit". Thanks for all your hard work. Maria Gander Bradshaw
CommentsThis is so exciting. Thank you, Alice, for reminding us what is truly important in life -- family. I have lived abroad for most of the past 29 years but I still miss my family constantly. It does not get easier. In fact, it becomes more acute with each passing year. We are making an effort to return home more frequently now. Our next trip to Missouri will be in April. Hope to see a number of family at that time. Meanwhile, I will keep checking the website to feel closer to our clan.
CommentsLooks Great Alice!!!!!!!!! You continue to amaze me in your efforts toward keeping family together! It is a joy to see pictures from days gone by as well as looking forward to those days to come.
